THE 1914 "MIRACLE" BRAVES
August 28, 1914
... The grounds at the National League Park in St.
Louis were in such bad condition caused by the rain, that the game
between the Cardinals and the Braves was postponed and a doubleheader
will be played tomorrow. If the weather conditions are favorable, it
is estimated that upward of 25,000 fans will turn out to see the twin
bill. In such an event, ground rules probably will be necessary, so
that lucky hits into the crowd will be limited as to the bases
allowed. The St. Louis fans have gone
baseball crazy over the prospects of their team. They are already talking about
a World Series with the Philadelphia Athletics. Both the Giants and the Braves
are very likely to interpose themselves between the Cardinals and their goals,
to say nothing of some other teams. There are only 11 1/2 games between the
Giants and the team that is last in last place, the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bill
James and Otto Hess will probably be the starting pitchers for Boston tomorrow,
while Lefty Tyler is scheduled to pitch on Sunday. |
