THE 1914 "MIRACLE" BRAVES
June 4, 1914 ... The game between the Braves and Brooklyn was called off around noon, which enabled the Braves to catch the 5:30 train back to Boston. The team
arrived just past 11:30 and every player was glad to be home. In spite of their poor showing, every player is full of fight, and insists that things will eventually come their way.
Manager Stallings offered no excuses, although he said that in his 25 years of baseball, he has never seen a team get as many bad breaks as this one. He feels his pitchers are pitching well and his defense is solid, but it is the timely hitting that the Braves are lacking. Time and time again he has seen the winning
run die on third base with only one out. |
