The Sox blow it but win anyways

Brayan Bello was effective in his first start after being
recalled from Worcester. He got a strikeout early and was backed up
with a nice double play by Christian Arroyo, who was playing short,
to Justin Turner at first base. The offense cemented the good vibes
in the bottom of the inning when Alex Verdugo doubled off the wall,
Masataka Yoshida walked and Rafael Devers homered.
The Guardians would get one in the second
on a Josh Bell home run but the Sox defense continued to
make some nice plays, including a barehanded scoop and
throw by Devers, and a pick-off by Connor Wong, who also
stole a base of his own. This was a game where lots of
Sox players did well.
In the top of the seventh, down 6-1, the Guardians exploded for
four, including a three-run double by Josh Naylor to make it a 6 to 5 game.
After the the Guardians tied the game in the ninth, they put up a
run in the top of the 10th inning, to go up 7-6. In the bottom of the
inning, ghost runner Enmanuel Valdez quickly scored to tie the game on a single
by Christian Arroyo, before Connor Wong moved Arroyo into scoring position with
a sacrifice bunt. With Verdugo at the plate, Wong advanced to third on a passed
ball, before scoring the winning run on Verdugo’s single to left.
Arroyo went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Wong
set a career high with three hits.
