No game scheduled.
First baseman Mike Napoli is expected to return to the Red Sox' lineup for at least one game of Tuesday's day-night doubleheader against the Tampa Bay Rays. Napoli came out of Thursday's game in Baltimore in the third inning because of an illness and missed the remainder of the four-game series.
The Sox sent him back to Boston to be examined by team doctors.
The Isenberg School of Management at UMass-Amherst recognized Sox general manager Ben Cherington as a distinguished alumni during a dinner at the Colonnade Hotel. Jose Iglesias's 17-game hit streak is the longest active streak in the majors. He is
26 of 61 (.426) in the 17 games with six extra-base hits and five RBIs. Rubby De La Rosa threw 5 1/3 shutout innings and struck out five for Triple A Pawtucket against Columbus. He allowed only two hits but walked five. If Clay Buchholz goes on
the disabled list, De La Rosa is a candidate to start against the Tigers in Detroit.
It's anybody's guess when Jerry Remy might resume his duties on NESN. The Red Sox analyst has been on the DL for nearly three weeks, and NESN confirmed Tuesday it will be a while longer before the RemDawg returns to the broadcast booth. Initially, the word was
Remy, who has battled a host of health issues in recent years, was suffering from allergies and would miss only a few games. |
