No game scheduled ...
David Ortiz noticed it as soon as he got to the ballpark, the
therapeutic effect this 103d World Series is having on his aching
right knee. And it had nothing to do with the venue switching from
sea level to a mile high. Ortiz will be at first base tomorrow in
Coors Field for the resumption of the World Series
Daisuke
Matsuzaka, buoyed by his victory in Game 7 of the American League Championship
Series, will face Josh Fogg, the Rockies righthander who was born in Lynn,
Mass., but whose family moved to South Florida when he was two weeks old. Fogg
was 10-9 with a 4.94 ERA, numbers that hardly suggest he's the ideal choice to
be on the barricades against a team batting .309 in a dozen games this
postseason.
Tim
Wakefield said he continues to play catch even though he is not on the World
Series roster. Shortly after the Series, Wakefield anticipates undergoing an
arthrogram, in which a dye will be injected into his right shoulder and pictures
taken to determine the extent of the damage. An earlier MRI, Wakefield said, did
not show structural damage. But the area was severely inflamed, and Wakefield
said the doctors had mentioned the possibility of a shoulder impingement, one
reason he was advised to shut it down. At this stage, he said, he does not
expect surgery. He also said he doesn't believe his condition will have an
impact on the team's decision whether to exercise its $4 million option for him
next season.
Once again,
an "optional" workout drew nearly the whole Sox roster to Coors Field today.
Eric Gagne, Coco Crisp, J.D. Drew, Manny Delcarmen, and Schilling were not
present.
