THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND
A SEASON TO REMEMBER
...
The wrong Sox win at Fenway
August 23,
1975 ...
Bill Melton drove in three runs and Nyls Nyman hit his first
major league homer to lead the Chicago White Sox past the Red Sox, 6
to 4.
Melton drew a bases-loaded walk from Rick Wise to force in a first
inning run, then he followed Ken Henderson's walk in the sixth inning
with a home run.
The Red Sox scored two runs off Jesse Jefferson in the second inning.
Jim Rice's double and walks to Tim Blackwell and Dwight Evans loaded
the bases. Bob Heise then delivered a two-run single to center to put
the Red Sox up 2-1.
Chicago scored two runs in the seventh inning on successive singles
by Pete Varney, Pat Kelly, Jorge Orta and Carlos May. Nyman also
homered in the eight inning for Chicago's sixth run off Jim
Willoughby.
In the Sox half of the eighth inning, down 6-2, Denny Doyle was hit
by one of Jefferson's pitches to lead off the inning. After Yaz flew
out Fred Lynn reached base when Pat Kelly lost his line drive in the
sun. Jefferson walked the bases loaded and was replaced by Rich
Gossage. Evans slammed a double off the wall in left-center, to score
both Doyle and Lynn, but Blackwell was cut down trying to score.
Carlton Fisk suffered a split knuckle on the ring finger of his right
hand in the first inning, the result of a foul tip by Ken Henderson. |
