“DIARY OF A WINNER”

THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND
A SEASON TO REMEMBER
...
Lee and Lynn put up the numbers in KC

August 19, 1975 ... Bill Lee hurled a four-hitter and Fred Lynn slammed a double and a two-run homer to lead the Red Sox in a 5 to 0 shutout of the Royals in Kansas City. Dwight Evans, Bob Heise and Rick Burleson also drove in runs.

Lee improved his record to 16-7 and outpitched Al Fitzmorris who gave up five runs and seven hits.

Evans' double, a sacrifice and a single by Heise, put the Sox ahead in the third inning. In the sixth inning they got two more runs. Fred Lynn doubled off the right field fence, moved to third on Jim Rice's grounder to George Brett and raced home when John Mayberry's throw, trying to get him at third base, went wild. Carlton Fisk drew a pass, stole second, went to third on Evans' infield hit and scored on Rick Burleson's sacrifice fly.

Lynn cleared the right field fence for his 20th homer and league-leading 88th RBI in the seventh inning, after Carl Yastrzemski drew a two-out walk, for the final Sox runs.
