THE "GOLD DUST TWINS" AND
A SEASON TO REMEMBER
...
The Sox stop the Brewers again
August 7,
1975 ...
Denny Doyle and Fred Lynn (.337 BA) drove in two runs apiece
and Rick Wise allowed eight hits in his eighth consecutive win and
15th overall, leading the Red Sox to a 4 to 2 victory over the
Brewers in Milwaukee. The win kept the Sox on top of the AL East by
seven games. Wise's 15th win put him one behind AL leaders Jim Palmer
and Jim Kaat.
The Sox scored three runs in the third inning off loser Jim Slaton,
after filling the bases with none out on a double by Rico Petrocelli,
a single by Rick Burleson and a walk to Bernie Carbo. Doyle singled a
spinner of Don Money's glove for two runs and Lynn sent in another
runner with the first of his two doubles. A single by Carbo, a
sacrifice bunt by Doyle and Lynn's third hit produced the final run
in the seventh inning.
Jim Rice singled in the second inning and took third on a two-out
bloop hit by Cecil Cooper. However, catcher Darrell Porter tagged out
Rice at the plate when the Sox tried a delayed double steal.
Mike Hegan slammed two solo homers in the second and seventh innings
for the Brewers runs.
Carl Yastrzemski injured his left arm while tagging out Robin Yount
after a wide throw to first by Rick Burleson in the fifth inning. Yaz
flew back to Boston to be examined. |
