BOSTON RED
SOX ...
THE CURSE OF
THE BAMBINO, PART 3
A
SUBWAY SERIES DISAPPEARS ...
October 1, 1948
... No game scheduled ... The Red Sox and
Yankees will open up a two-game series that could decided the
American League pennant, as the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland
Indians keeping the race on uncertain terms. Both the Red Sox and the
Yankees are only one game behind Cleveland. A three run Detroit
rally in the ninth-inning upset the Indians 5 to 3. Former member of the Braves,
Jimmy Outlaw, singled home the winning runs. If Cleveland wins tomorrow, the
loser of the Red Sox and Yankees game will be eliminated from the race. Only
bleacher and reserve seats will be available for the last game of the season on
Sunday.
Dick O'Connell of Boston College was appointed the new assistant general
manager of the parent club. He has done well for the Red Sox with their farm
team in Lynn. |
