“DIARY OF A WINNER”

THE CURSE OF THE BAMBINO, PART 2 ...
A POWERFUL RED SOX TEAM FAILS
IN THE WORLD SERIES ...

May 24, 1946 ... No game scheduled ... About 200 cheering fans met the Red Sox at Logan Airport last night.  Each player received a big hand as they passed in the terminal.  A Cleveland columnist labeled this team the "Dread Sox".

On the eve of the series with the Yankees at Fenway Park, Yankee manager Joe McCarthy resigned from his home in Buffalo for reasons of ill health.  Bill Dickey was named as McCarthy's successor and was given a contract through the 1947 season.
