“DIARY OF A WINNER”
|
THE LAST ONE FOR 86 YEARS September 4, 1918 ... Rain postponed the first game of the World Series. None of the players minded as they all felt another days rest would let everyone's bumps and bruises heal more. That especially applied to Dave Shean and his injured finger. Sam Jones was happy with the day off. He won $44 playing poker and hopes it rains again tomorrow. Many of the players went to shows or played pool. The only player's wife to accompany the team to Chicago is Mrs. Wally Schang. Relatives of Fred Thomas, Jack Coffey, Wally Mayer, Joe Bush are in town. |
