BACK-TO-BACK WORLD SERIES CHAMPS

August 20, 1916 ... No game scheduled ... One hundred and three players who were sold to the minor leagues by the major league teams under optional agreements which provided for their recall on August 15th, will be back with their major league teams.  Of these options, 40 were exercised by the National League and 63 by the American League.

The Red Sox reclaimed Fred Wilder, Vean Gregg and Herb Pennock from the Buffalo Bisons; Mickey Devine from the New Haven Murlins, Chick Shorten from the Newark Indians, and Fred Thomas from the New Orleans Pelicans.
