“DIARY OF A WINNER”

BACK-TO-BACK WORLD SERIES CHAMPS

June 19, 1916 ... No game scheduled ... The Red Sox arrived home at 9:30, about an hour late owing to an accident that occurred to the locomotive which was hauling the Lake Shore Limited, 15 miles west of Buffalo.  An axle broke, and the train stopped before anything of a serious nature could happen.  The train was held up two and one half hours, but the Red Sox were just happy that nobody was injured.
